The first step in supporting a child or young person, whether as a parent or a therapist, is connecting with them.

As a therapist I ensure that I become the child’s emotionally available adult, creating an environment of physical comfort and safety but, most importantly, creating a sense of psychological safety.

In my work I understand the importance of offering predictability, consistency and structure alongside compassion, kindness, fun and creativity. Together, these elements form the connection, allowing the child to share their feelings and difficulties with me.

Forging a connection and establishing a secure sense of safety for the child is for me the most essential part of supporting children and young people.
